My Guiding Compass is My Camera

Capturing our Natural World of Nightscapes, Landscapes and Nature through Photography

My images evoke memories of gliding through pristine mountain powder, the tranquility of summer evenings beneath the stars, and the grandeur of our mountains.

I use my camera to explore various areas, often revisiting them multiple times, immersing myself in the scene for hours. To truly appreciate nature, we must step away from our cameras and become part of the landscape.

Meet Michelle

A fine art photographer, educator, adventurer, traveler, and avid outdoors lover. I'm frequently found sleeping in the back of my car, patiently waiting for the light to change, rolling on the ground to capture the perfect angle, and venturing into the depths of the night to gaze at the stars.

My Work

NIGHTSCAPES

Have you ever been in an area devoid of light and gazed up at the stars?

I have.

Nightscapes” — My latest passion and ongoing project where I combine my love of the outdoors and dramatic landscapes with the Milky Way, moon, and cosmos.

My images invoke wonder about what lies beyond our galaxy and evoke memories of summer evenings spent gazing up at the sky.

DRAMATIC LIGHTING

I'm captivated by the vibrant hues that paint the sky during sunrises and sunsets and drawn to photographing during 'Blue Hour.' This magical period, lasting around 20 to 30 minutes before sunrise or after sunset, casts a subtle blue hue across the sky, creating particularly dramatic colors.

During the summer, it's not uncommon for me to find myself awake at 3 a.m., eagerly awaiting the first hint of light on the horizon. I'm driven by the anticipation of witnessing the breathtaking colors that unfold in our skies. Now, as I explore my passion for capturing nightscapes, I often steal a few moments of rest in the back of my car to wait for sunrise.

NATURE & LANDSCAPES

The essence of our public lands and the natural world flows through my veins, a passion ignited during childhood. I vividly recall a trip to Niagara Falls, armed with my first point-and-shoot camera, while my grandmother questioned why I lingered in one spot for over 30 minutes.

To her, the moment was fleeting, but for me, it held endless fascination. I could have stayed there for hours, captivated by the shifting light, cascading water, and ever-changing scenery. That modest camera captured countless rainbows and stills of the falling water that day.

Today, my passion for landscape and nature photography continues to evolve with each passing year, fueled by new ideas, techniques, and projects.

Testimonials

  • Michelle is such a great person to work with - I recently needed a rapid order to NJ from OR for Christmas for a print I saw at one of her markets. Not only did she offer me a variety of options, but she also had it mailed over, intact, before I could even find a plane over there! I would love to work with Michelle again - very prompt and accommodating (with beautiful photos!)
